Getting to know... Lindsay Brownless
Over the festive period, we’re shining a spotlight on the people that make up the Mortgage Brain family by asking them a few questions to find out what makes Christmas for them. So, join us for a coffee break with…
Lindsay Brownless
Lindsay is a more recent addition to the Mortgage Brain family, joining at the worst possible time, during lockdown. That didn’t phase her and she quickly set about building a successful and tight-knit marketing team.
Lindsay, thanks for letting us get to know you better. Firstly, let’s start with a few questions about your time at Mortgage Brain. How long have you been working with the company?
Around 18 months now, wow. Time flies!
What is your roll within the business?
I’m the group marketing manager so I’m responsible for the business’ marketing activities which are broad due to the diversity of our business. Although, I must caveat that I’m not responsible for our social media posts, so, any terrible jokes that we write at various festive celebrations are not my doing!
What do you like best about working for Mortgage Brain?
Honestly, the people. I started in lockdown, which was a daunting prospect, but I needn’t have worried, everyone was incredibly welcoming and supportive. As time has gone on, I’ve got to know some amazing people, especially the whole marketing team who I love working with.
Now let’s dig a little deeper into what Christmas is like for Lindsay Brownless.
What is your favourite Christmas movie?
Father Christmas… it’s a short cartoon that we’ve watched every year as a family for as long as I can remember, we used to rent it as a VHS! Last year, we streamed it online to three different cities to maintain our tradition…
Turkey, goose, or something else?
It has to be turkey!
Brussels Sprouts – yes, or no?
A firm yes! They’re basically teeny tiny cabbages, what isn’t to like?
Do you have any family Christmas traditions that you follow every year?
Ah, I should have read this first! Watching Father Christmas and opening a present on Christmas Eve are two that stand out for me.
Real tree or imitation tree?
Both! One tree is never enough.
What is your favourite Christmas drink?
It has to be mulled wine for me.
Are you an early riser Christmas morning because it’s all too exciting or do you have to be dragged from your bed?
I’m an early riser, getting up whilst it’s still dark and opening presents in the glow of the Christmas tree lights is my favourite!
What is your favourite Christmas song?
That’s a tricky question but I’m going to go with the Michael Bublé and Idina Menzel version of Baby It’s Cold Outside which I listen to almost obsessively from Mid-November through to January!
What was the best Christmas gift anyone ever gave you?
The most memorable has to be a PlayStation 2. My father made us open the game first which was a PS2 game but we only had a PS console. Both my brother and I were quick to make him aware of his terrible mistake… the egg was firmly on our faces when we then unwrapped a PS2!
And what was the worst (mentioning no names)?
A woman that I’ve known since birth (no names) loves gifting ‘rogue’ presents. Last year she impulse bought an item off a disreputable site. I opened a runner’s wristband which you couldn’t get over your hand and the zip fell off instantly. A+ for thought, D for execution.
Do you have your Christmas shopping finished by the start of December or are you still searching for gifts on Christmas Eve?
I like to have everything except stocking fillers done before the calendar turns to December!
Which four celebrities would you invite to your Christmas party?
Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, Jennifer Aniston, and Seth Rogan.
Do you crave a white Christmas?
Nope! I’ve had one or two in my time and now firmly crave being on a sunny beach with my snorkel mask.
